Activision’s Prototype 2’s release date has been announced together with the first public showings of the game at Comic-Con. April 24, 2012 has been confirmed for the game’s street date, with a new trailer – the first of three in a series – beginning a publicity drive that should see the game receive more attention than its precursor. Prototype made plenty of “Most Overlooked of 2009” lists (we gave it a 9 (opens in new tab)) – so it’s nice to see the sequel getting a bit more of a push: here’s the trailer:
Prototype 2 sees you take on the role of a new character, James Heller, fighting your way through a disease-blighted New York City on a quest to kill the first game’s protagonist, Alex Mercer. We’re now taking bets as to whether the sequel’s climax will see the pair forge a reluctant alliance against their real enemy, to be targeted in the (by then mandatory) third part of the (by then obvious) Prototype trilogy.
Prototype 2’s being shown off at Activision’s Comic-Con booth – stop by to enter the drawing to win a leather jacket similar to that worn by James Heller or a customized Xbox 360 similar to, um, the one Alex Mercer would play if he didn’t have more pressing concerns and one of his arms wasn’t a giant crab-claw? Anyway, Prototype 2, April 2012 – good news, right?
