With production on Deadpool now officially underway, plenty of new tidbits of information are beginning to emerge from the set. The latest comes courtesy of Ed Skrein who has confirmed he will be playing the villainous Ajax.
The star published an image of an on-set chair bearing the character’s name via Twitter, accompanied by the hashtags #deadpool and #ajax. Just how the character will fit into the wider plot remains to be seen, but we do know from the comics that he has a big part to play in Deadpool’s origin story.
In the comic-books, Ajax is a part of the same Weapon X programme used to transform Wolverine, with his own personal “upgrade” rendering him impervious to pain. He is also a key player in Wade Wilson’s transformation into Deadpool, a process that will presumably set him at odds with our hero in the big-screen version.
Directed by Tim Miller and co-starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin and Gina Carano, Deadpool will open in the UK and US on 12 February 2016.
