Kevin Feige suggests Marvel will launch one sequel and one new franchise each year

Kevin Feige has been discussing Marvel’s ongoing plans for Phase 3 and beyond, and has indicated that the new model may be to release one new franchise and one sequel every year.

Guardians Of The Galaxy fulfilled our desire to do something different,” explains Feige, “to start producing, each year, a film that was the sequel to a pre-existing, successful franchise and do something new.”

“We’re doing that next year with Age Of Ultron , with Ant-Man , and hope to maybe continue that model in the coming years.”

Feige’s comments come in the wake of Marvel confirming release dates for five untitled films to arrive between 2017 and 2019, with the studio head conceding that it remains a huge challenge to keep so many balls in the air.

“Is there a downside to managing multiple, successful franchises?” asks Feige. “I believe we’re figuring out that there is, which is having the time to do them all.”

“So, at what point do we hold back a franchise or have three or four years between parts of a franchise in order to introduce new ones? Or do you introduce new ones within the body of the films? We’re looking at all those things right now.”

Guardians Of The Galaxy
will be Marvel’s next big release, with the film set to open in the UK next Thursday.
