Capcom launches Street Fighter fan art contest

The Street Fighter franchise is turning 25 on August 30, and to celebrate, Capcom is giving its more creative fans a crack at Street Fighter infamy.

On now until May 4, 2012, artists are invited to submit their original pieces to the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Art Tribute page. Fans can submit anything from traditional drawings, digital renderings, photos of physical pieces, or anything visual that coveys the themes of “Twenty-Five Years of History” or “I am Street Fighter”.

Street Fighter musicians can also get in on the nostalgia by uploading their audio tributes to the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Music Tribute page. Submission categories include original songs, inspired by the Street Fighter series; or remixes, using samples or inspiration from past Street Fighter releases.

Capcom said selected pieces form both categories would be “used in an official category later on”. It also hinted its 25th anniversary Street Fighter shindig will give digital fighters a chance to prove their mettle in a yet unannounced Street Fighter tournament series (read: Capcom celebrates 25 years of Street Fighter). Details on both aspects of the quarter-century promotion are coming soon.
