Nintendo is to launch Wii Mini in the UK on March 22.
Currently available exclusively in Canada, the flat resting system is smaller than the original Wii and features a manual release top-loading disc tray. The console doesn’t boast any internet connectivity options or backwards compatibility with GameCube titles.
It will be available in matte black with a red border, and come bundled with a red MotionPlus controller and Nunchuk. While Nintendo said last year that the Canadian Wii Mini is capable of playing more than 1,400 disc-based Wii games, the UK version will be compatible with 1,200 and support “most” Wii accessories. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, but the system retails for $100 (£64) in Canada.
Lifetime Wii hardware sales stood at 99.38 million units as of December 31, 2012.
To accompany the Wii Mini launch, Nintendo will also add four more games to its Nintendo Selects line of value software: Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis and Super Paper Mario.
