Marvel’s The Avengers and, more recently, Avengers: Age of Ultron have done gangbusters at the box office, but slapping Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (™) into a product wasn’t always the sure-fire money-printing scheme it is today. In fact, despite EA Chicago working to develop a game where Marvel characters would throw down in superpowered brawls back in 2007, the project never saw the light of day.

PtoPOnline has a video purporting to show gameplay footage of this unfinished game, featuring a battle between Hulk and Captain America. Check it out:

Simply dubbed “Marvel,” the game is reported to have had a plethora of Marvel heroes and villains duking it out in a 3D, destructible environment. EA Chicago (formerly NuFX of NBA Street development fame) never got a chance to see its dreams realized, however, as the studio was shut down for missing profit goals.

Josh Tsui, who directed a short concept video (opens in new tab) for the cancelled game, eventually went on to co-found Robomodo, the development studio behind Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD (opens in new tab) and the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 (opens in new tab). You know what they say: one hero’s end is a pro skater’s beginning.
