Uncharted movie adaptation loses director Seth Gordon

Sony’s adaptation of video game series Uncharted has hit yet another hurdle. Heroic Hollywood reports that the movie’s latest attached director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) will no longer be involved in production.

The first game in the series was released in 2007 and revolves around the antics of Nathan Drake, a descendant of the explorer Sir Francis Drake, as he quests to find a fabled lost city. Along the way he encounters a race of mutated humans who aren’t pleased with his antics. Sony’s projections for the film were in the vein of a swashbuckling Indiana Jones-esque adventure.

Gordon’s swift departure is thought to be a result of new Sony chief Tom Rothman’s decision to steer the film in a different direction. Instead of a smart-mouthed loveable rogue like Indy leading the flick, he plans to amp up the horror elements for a film that hews closer to Resident Evil.

The movie is still sitting on a June 12, 2016 release date, so Gordon’s replacement may already be in the bag…
