Alright Overwatch (opens in new tab) fans, it’s time for you to flex your muscles like the godly Terry Crews, as he’s enlisted your help to have him voice what’s rumoured to be Overwatch’s newest character: Doomfist.

Crews visited the Overwatch HQ (opens in new tab) in December and it’s fair to say he was pretty hyped about his trip. Already known as a gaming fiend (he built his own gaming rig (opens in new tab) back in July), he’s not been very discreet on Twitter about the fact that he’s hankering to lend his voice to Doomfist.

For those who need to be brought up to speed, Doomfist is a title taken on by those who don a shiny gauntlet which, according to one of the animated shorts, has the power to level skyscrapers. Looks familiar, doesn’t it? That would be because it’s one of the payloads you have to escort in-game. But it’s not always a force for good – shots of art from one of Overwatch’s map show that when Akinjide Adeyemi controlled the Doomfist he was known as ‘The Scourge’. Sounds like he might not have been Mr Nice Guy (the mushroom cloud behind him certainly looks ominous). 

His successor is called – well, ‘The Successor’ (not giving anything away, is it?). The Doomfist this chap is wearing is noticeably more augmented, its shiny metal casing stretching all the way to his shoulder – so Crews could voice a noticeably more powerful Doomfist. 

But wait, there’s more! Whilst hunting down information to try and find out what Doomfist could be like, I noticed the animated short has a teeny tiny clue. The map on the Doomfist casing has highlighted North America, the East coast of Africa, and somewhere down near Australia. It wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to envisage that these locations are where the previous Doomfists have come from – one of which might be Crews’ beloved character. Guess we’ll have to wait and see which accent Crews might be adopting.
