Composer Yasunori Mitsuda made his mark in the videogame music world when he scored the Chrono Trigger soundtrack back in 1995 with Nobuo Uematsu and Noriko Matsueda. While he’s worked on several memorable RPGs since then, including the highly-acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles that has yet to reach North America, his most recent project is a free-to-play MMORPG called Lime Odyssey: The Chronicles of Orta.
According to publisher Aeria Games’ press release, each region of Lime Odyssey will have compositions that reflect its mystical background and vibrant colors. The samples below include a beautiful piano melody titled, Blue Coral, named after a sea port town and a lively track that players will likely listen to as they make the trek to Lime called West Tumbara.
In an interview with Palng, Mitsuda mentioned that it takes him a month to learn about a videogame’s scenario, character setting and background art before he can begin composing. When he is offered a job at the tail-end of the development cycle, he’ll team up with other composers or may even decline the project.
Lime Odyssey: The Chronicles of Orta will be free to download and play. For those who are interested in more information, or who wish to sign up for the closed beta, visit the website here.
