Ryan Gosling and Nicholas Winding Refn have begun to form the kind of actor-director relationship that brings out the best in both parties, but sadly, that relationship will not continue on the latter’s forthcoming remake of Logan’s Run .
Gosling had initially signed on to take the leading role in the sci-fi adventure, but Variety ’s Justin Kroll now reports that the Drive star is no longer attached to the project.
Whether that’s the decision of the studio (Warner are likely gearing this one up for a big, tentpole opening) or Gosling himself is unclear, but in any case, Refn is going to be forced to find himself a new leading man.
Logan’s Run is a remake of the 1976 sci-fi thriller, set in an idyllic future where the only major drawback is the fact that life ends at thirty. Unless of course, you go on the run…
It will be interesting to see whether a megastar in the vein of Tom Cruise or Will Smith will be foisted upon Refn, or whether the studio will stay out of casting Gosling’s replacement. In any case, we can still look forward to another team-up between the pair when Only God Forgives opens in 2013.
