The Nintendo World Championships are coming back. Nintendo announced today that it will resurrect the cross-game competition after a 25-year hiatus as part of its weeklong event plans for E3 2015.
Nintendo hasn’t revealed much about the final format and what games will be included in the championships, but clear out your calendar and bring along all your old childhood dreams for qualifying competitions on May 31. The final round is set for June 14, complete with an accompanying live stream.
Maybe you can glean some more details from this ludicrous promotional video, starring Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime in a training montage with Super Scopes, Virtual Boys, and Wii Sports Boxing.
Nintendo also confirmed that it will stream its third annual Digital Event on June 16 at 9 am PDT / 5 pm BST. Last year’s event was quite a production, complete with a CGI-enhanced battle between Fils-Aime and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata and stop-motion segments from the creators of Robot Chicken. Oh yeah, some video games, too.
The Nintendo Treehouse stream will also return for live gameplay sessions and interviews with developers from the E3 show floor throughout the conference. Lastly, fans will be able to try out Mario Maker (opens in new tab) at select Best Buy locations on June 17 and June 20.
