Check outside your window for flying pigs, because Sony has finally announced a release window for The Last Guardian. It’s coming in 2016 and no, it’s not a PlayStation 3 exclusive any more – it’s coming to PS4.
The project from Ico and Shadow of the Colossus director Fumito Ueda was re-revealed at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference along with a surprisingly vocal gameplay trailer. It looks a lot like the scarce few screens released from the old version of the game – you know, the one that was supposed to hit PS3 in 2011 – but prettier and grander.
The young boy at the heart of the adventure interacts with his giant beaky dog friend through a series of shouts and exaggerated postures – he’s got big ears, so you have to speak up to get heard, after all. There’s even some Shadow of the Colossus-style monster scaling (though unlike Wander, he’s not trying to kill it).
Of course, 2016’s still a pretty big release window, so there’s still plenty of time for it to slip another half-decade back. Just kidding. I hope.
