Sega has announced a PS3 remake of House of the Dead: Overkill, the grindhouse shoot-em-up formerly only available on Nintendo Wii. This is frankly awesome news, not least because most of the game’s few flaws were down to the hardware constraints of the Wii itself. No more blurriness, no more slowdown… look at these screenshots! As if that wasn’t enough, there will be new levels, Move support and 3D too. I’m so excited, I might just burst (a zombie head or ten).
In case you missed the game first time round (most did), be prepared for one of the most brilliantly-realised game concepts ever made. The grainy film filter, the deliberate continuity errors and, of course, the potty mouth of Agent Isaac Washington, combine to make this a sublime tribute to low-budget, ’70s horror flicks. There will be two new scenarios on top of the six levels from the original game – we’re guessing developer Headstrong is making it longer in order to reclaim its Guinness World Record for sweariest game ever made, which was snatched by Mafia II.
Above: Shoot enough zombi… sorry, mutants, and you’ll activate ‘goregasm’ mode
Gary Knight of SEGA said: “The House of the Dead: OVERKILL – Extended Cut on Playstation 3 will send players to the shrieking mad heart of mutant mayhem. This time we went further, faster and bloodier than before. We extended everything, even the title.”Good man.
The game is scheduled for release on October 28 in Europe and October 25 in the US. We’re going to be all over this one, but for now just soak in these first screens of the new game and then head over tothis feature (opens in new tab)and see why you’re going to love it.
Above: Look at the new character models! If this runs at 60fps (and it should), it’ll be superb
