Everyones up for Indiana Jones 5, but Star Wars comes first apparently

Lucasfilm is currently busy with the imminent release of a little known film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it looks like its other major franchise could be making a comeback. Both Steven Spielberg (opens in new tab) and Harrison Ford (opens in new tab) have expressed interest in returning for a fifth instalment following Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and now Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has weighed in.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), Kennedy offered this update: “We’re all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it. We’ve kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don’t know yet. I think there will be one, we’ll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody’s just focused on Star Wars.

Spielberg recently noted that Ford wasn’t getting replaced (opens in new tab) as Indy any time soon, but time is running out for the latter to reprise the role. With Lucasfilm’s slate currently full of future Star Wars films, will there be any room for another Indiana Jones movie? At any rate, here’s hoping that the enthusiasm to return to the franchise remains strong.

Directed by Abrams and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in UK cinemas on December 17, 2015 before opening in US theatres a day later.
