Tom Hardy walked away from Suicide Squad over script

Last week, Tom Hardy dropped out of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, citing a schedule clash with his other film, The Revenant (directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu).

According to scoop site Latino Review, though, Hardy was unhappy with the way his character, Rick Flagg, had been treated in the latest draft of the script.

The website reveal that none of the film’s cast – which includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne – were given the script before they signed on.

And in the latest draft, Hardy’s lesser-known villain was given less screen-time in order to bump up the presence of other baddies The Joker (Leto) and Deadshot (Smith).

“He didn’t like the drastic change to the character,” Latino Review state, going on to add that Hardy’s departure was “amicable”.

The site also hints that Jesse Eisenberg could play Lex Luthor in the movie (for the second time after Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice) as Suicide Squad‘s main antagonist.

Suicide Squad opens in the UK on 5 August 2016.
