The Aquaman movie gets delayed with a solo Venom movie taking its 2018 spot

It’s time for another round of movie release date musical chairs, this time starring a (non-MCU) Venom standalone movie and, crucially, Aquaman (opens in new tab), which has been delayed by a few months but still just about surfaces in 2018.

Aquaman, previously slated for October 5, 2018, has been shifted back to December 21, 2018. It’s probably the meticulous scouting for seas by director James Wan (opens in new tab)that’s really driven back the schedule…

Taking Aquaman’s place in October is a Venom standalone movie. It’s a Sony property (confusingly) so don’t expect Spidey or any other Marvel-owned heroes to rock up. How a Venom movie, which was thought to have been shelved, will work separately from Spider-Man’s new established continuity is anyone’s guess. They’ve only got 18 months to figure it out. Good luck with that.

And, hey, surely it won’t be as bad as Spider-Man 3’s Venom…

…right?

Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson, Aquaman is now slated for release on December 21, 2018
