That Men in Black/Jump Street crossover may not be happening after all, says Jonah Hill

Earlier this year it looked like that improbable crossover between the 21 Jump Street and Men in Black franchises was actually becoming a reality when Sony announced the title at CinemaCon (opens in new tab). One of the stars of that movie would presumably be Jonah Hill, but the actor doesn’t seem confident the film will happen:

“I had the idea, but I doubt that movie will ever get made”, Hill told Toronto Sun (opens in new tab). “They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff. The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes”.

It’s not hard to see where Hill is coming from here; MiB 23 could easily become the movie it was intending to make fun, and if this year’s blockbusters are any indication audiences aren’t exactly flocking to cinemas for reboots right now.

With that said, if director James Bobin and co have indeed managed to find a fun way to combine the two franchises then MiB 23 could prove to be a risk worth taking, and while he has his doubts Hill still hasn’t given up hope; “I love Channing [Tatum] and I love (directors) Phil Lord and Chris Miller and I love making those movies — they’re a lot of fun. So I hope it works out”. Us too.

A release date for Men in Black 23 has yet to be announced.
