PT-a-like Allison Road canceled by “mutual agreement”

Not long after PT and Silent Hills bit the dust, Allison Road appeared to fill the gap. It’s similar themes – scary house, unpleasant girl ghost and so on – caught people’s imagination and meant it soon ditched its Kickstarter attempts to fully sign up with publisher Team 17.

Then it was cancelled (opens in new tab).

At the time there was no reason, just this tweet:

Hi all. Sadly Allison Road had to be cancelled. Statement to come in the next few days. Thx for all your support and very sad it came 2 thisJune 5, 2016

A few days ago, Lilith the studio behind the game published this message (opens in new tab):

“Hi all,

After a long consideration between Team17 and ourselves, we have reached a mutual agreement to end our collaboration on publishing Allison Road under Team17’s Games label.

Sometime things pan out differently than expected as game development and publishing have so many layers of complexity… We’d like to especially thank everyone for their support through-out, it has and will always be appreciated!”

Now publisher Team 17 has followed up (opens in new tab) with a very similarly worded message:

“After a long consideration between Lilith owner Chris Kesler and ourselves, we have reached a mutual agreement to end our collaboration on publishing Allison Road under Team17’s Games label. We love the concept and value Chris talent highly, but sometime things pan out differently than expected as game development and publishing have so many layers of complexity. The whole team here wish all the best to Chris on his current and future projects for which, before being a business partner, we are also a fan”.

As you can see, the phrasing is very similar with mention of ‘mutual agreement’ and how things ‘pan out differently’. There’s no word yet on the future of the game, or if we’ll see it made via another means. Lilith has said nothing since its last statment so don’t expect anything anytime soon.
