Matt Damon says its unlikely hell return to the Bourne franchise

In all the build-up to the release of The Bourne Legacy , much of the talk focussed on how that film would fit into the existing Bourne universe, leaving things open for a potential crossover between Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross further down the track.

However, while Matt Damon had previously suggested he was open-minded to a possible return, it sounds as though his interest in the franchise is beginning to wane.

“There has not been any movement,” says Damon of a return to the series. “I’ve always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don’t think he’s going to do it.”

On top of that, Damon reasons that the existence of Legacy makes it too tricky for Greengrass to do his own thing, even if the director were to return.

“From what I understand,” he continues, “[The Bourne Legacy] kind of relives [ The Bourne Ultimatum ] from a different perspective. What that means, because they use our actors and characters, is that whatever they said [ in Legacy] is true and so we’d have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we’d do.

“And that makes it really tough. I don’t think we can do the Dallas it-was-all-a-dream scenario. I don’t think the audience would go for that after they paid money to see a movie.”

Looks like we’ll have to make do with Jeremy Renner for now then. But until Bourne is officially pronounced dead, we’ll still be harbouring a tiny bit of hope that he’ll be back…
