George Clooney keen to direct the Coen brothers Suburbicon

George Clooney may have found his next directorial project, with another collaboration with the Coen brothers potentially in the offing. According to Deadline (opens in new tab), the star is currently eyeing the brothers’ Suburbicon screenplay, a project he has been linked to since as far back as 2005.

Very few specifics have been revealed about the plot, although the report describes the project as “a small crime drama set in the 1950s” and compares it to the Coens’ earlier film, Blood Simple. Joel Silver is in place to produce, with a deal for Clooney to direct apparently well on the way to being thrashed out.

Clooney will of course head up the Coens’ next film, Hail, Caesar!, having previously starred in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Intolerable Cruelty and Burn After Reading. Things are thought to be moving quickly on this one, so expect to see an official announcement sooner rather than later…
