Far Cry Primal and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided have one guy in common

February 23rd will mark a challenging period for those who are both indecisive and unwilling to buy two games coming out on the same day. The AAA offerings that week will pull you into opposing ends of time, with Far Cry Primal (opens in new tab) pitching a stone-age sandbox, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (opens in new tab) doubling down on dystopia. Both will offer big, coherent worlds to explore or dismantle in first-person view, and both will hinge on the same set of pleasantly coarse vocal chords.

Yeah. I play the lead character in this bad boy. #FarCryPrimal https://t.co/qLuXBeqnRKOctober 6, 2015

Elias Toufexis, who plays Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and the man who could easily buy the Earth if there was a personal royalty fee for each repetition of that line, will also play the lead role in Far Cry Primal. Primal’s prehistoric protag, Takkar, will be wildly different not because of the primitive context it’s in, but because he doesn’t speak English.

Taking place well before humanity’s ascent up the food chain – and far removed from Far Cry’s traditional open-world gunplay – Far Cry Primal follows the last surviving member of a hunting group in the mesolithic era.

Ubisoft hasn’t shown how communication comes into play in-between the game’s weapon crafting and survival goals, but we know it’s been willing to use language to create an air of authenticity in the past. Far Cry 4’s Shangri-La missions, which played out as lucid visions steeped in Hindu mythology, relied strictly on Hindi voice-over for its hero, Kalinag, translated through subtitles.

Barring delays, the Elias Toufexis double bill – Far Cry Primal and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – will come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on February 23, 2016.
