Deadly Premonition creator teases sequels, prequels and special editions

Deadly Premonition is one of the cultiest cult game to be culted in recent memory, so it should come as no great shock that its creators at Access Games are keen on milking its sweet cult juices with no less than a prequel, sequel and special edition.

Speaking at last week’s Gamescom in Germany, Deadly Premonition director Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro revealed he and his team were interested in expanding the quirky open-world horror series with games set before and after the original, along with an updated version of the original featuring better graphics.

Since no plans are 100% official, it will likely be a while before Swery’s visions become a reality – longer still if he goes through with his other plans to make a whole new game altogether. Until then, you can cult it up with the original version on Xbox 360 via XBLA or the budget-priced physical copy. An English-enabled version of Deadly Premonition (aka Red Seeds Profile in Asia) for the PS3 is also available as an import.

GR has not been shy about its love for Deadly Premonition. True, it did win our Best Worst Games award in the 2010 Platinum Chalice Awards, but we gave it that designation out of genuine love for creative gem of a game that exists beneath the shoddy graphics, cringe-worthy voice acting, and unorthodox gameplay. That said, a polished sequel would be well received, but there’s a risk of losing the series’ off-beat, low-rent charm in the process. Are you game?
