Brave has topped the US box office with a healthy opening weekend of $66.7 million, making it the thirteenth Pixar movie to claim the number one spot.
The film comfortably knocked fellow animation Madagascar 3 off pole position, with the Ben Stiller-starring caper bringing in just $20.2m. Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter endured a disappointing opening, its $16.5m take leaving it in third place.
Prometheus added a further $10m to its total in fourth, with Snow White And The Huntsman just behind it with $8m, and Rock Of Ages on $7.9m in sixth.
That’s My Boy sits in seventh spot after a $7.9m weekend, while The Avengers inched even closer to the $600m mark with another $7m in the coffers. Men In Black 3 sits in ninth on $5.6m, with Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World completing the top ten on $3.8m.
Next week sees Seth MacFarlane’s sweary creation Ted enter the fray. Will Pixar still be on top after a scuffle with the foul-mouthed bear? We’ll have to wait and see…
