Sony reveals the official PS5 logo and literally nobody is surprised

Sony has revealed the official PS5 logo at CES 2020, which looks exactly like the PS4 and PS3 logos.

When Sony’s Jim Ryan took the stage at CES to talk about PlayStation, plenty of fans couldn’t help but hope for something related to the PS5 (opens in new tab). Ryan did, technically, deliver, as Ryan said: “I’m pleased to share with you today, for the first time… our new logo.”

While it wasn’t a first look at the console itself, like we’ve had with the Xbox Series X (opens in new tab), it does at least make it clear that Sony are looking to make the transition to PS5 as smooth as possible. As it stands though, the logo was the only new PS5-related development during Sony’s CES 2020 keynote. And just before that reveal, Ryan went over some highly-impressive sales numbers for the PS4. According to Ryan, Sony has sold over 106 million PS4s, 1.15 billion PS4 games, and five million PSVR headsets.

On top of that, Ryan did promise further detail on the PS5 would be coming shortly, saying “there’s much more to share on PlayStation 5 in the months ahead, and we look forward to revealing more details, including the content that will showcase the platform and the future of gaming.” With the PS5’s Holiday 2020 release window being less than a year away, “months ahead” is more likely to be sooner rather than later. Most likely, we’ll learn more in the first half of the year, maybe even the first quarter if we’re lucky.

Can’t get enough PS5? Occupy your time with some new DualShock 5 images (opens in new tab) and a new look at the PS5 dev kit. And if you want to get an idea of how much Sony’s new console will cost, head on over to our PS5 price feature.
