April 2022’s free PS Plus games have been revealed, with the latest batch going live Tuesday, April 5.

First and foremost, it’s worth a reminder that March’s free games are still available for the rest of the day, so if you want to snag Ark: Survival Evolved, Ghostrunner, Team Sonic Racing, and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you’d better do so before they disappear from PlayStation Plus’s free games selection later today.

Now, onto the new games. For April 2022, PlayStation is giving away Slay the Spire, Hood: Outlaws & Legends, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. So, three very different games offering plenty of variety to dig into for frugal PlayStation gamers this month.

Slay the Spire is a roguelike deck builder where you battle your way through enemies and ascend an ever-changing, procedurally generated spire. It launched in 2019 to positive reviews, and it’s seen a resurgence of success on Twitch and Steam lately. If you’re up for a new strategic challenge, give Slay the Spire a go while it’s free on PS Plus.

Changing gears dramatically, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is a trip back in time: an HD remake of the 2003 platforming cult-classic starring the titular sea sponge, his airheaded buddy Patrick Star, and the thrill-seeking Sandy Cheeks, who are all playable characters. Reviews are mixed, but it’s worth checking out for fans of the cartoon, especially since it’s free to PS Plus subscribers for a limited time.

Finally, Hood: Outlaws & Legends is also free for PS Plus subscribers starting tomorrow. The multiplayer heist game challenges opposing teams to infiltrate an authoritarian power’s keep with the intention of stealing the treasure before your enemy gets to it. A PvE mode called State Heist was added last July.
