Fortnite Build-a-brella challenges: How to completely customise your umbrella glider

The Fortnite Build-a-brella challenges give you the opportunity to stamp your own creativeness on your glider, so you can show off your style as you float on down to the battle royale. After customising our secret agent Maya last season, we have a similar set up here – although this time you’re designing a unique umbrella to your own specifications. Thanks to the number of different parts available, there are some 8,000 combination variations to piece together, and if you add in the colour customisation choices in addition to that then there’s near unlimited scope for what you can do with your Fortnite (opens in new tab) glider. We’ve got the details on how to unlock every custom Fortnite umbrella option, and will show you what you need to do to beat all of the Fortnite Build-a-brella challenges.

To unlock different items to attach to your custom Fortnite Build-a-brella, you’ll need to reach certain season levels through the battle pass. Keep racking up that XP by completing other challenges, filling out your punch cards, and generally by doing well in matches. The attachments you’ll unlock for your custom Fortnite umbrella are as follows:

  • Season Level 15 – Topper
  • Season Level 35 – Shaft
  • Season Level 55 – Canopy
  • Season Level 75 – Bottom Cap
  • Season Level 95 – Trail Effects Color

  • Outlast opponents in Solos, Duos, or Squads (500)

If you’re good at the game then this should come to you reasonably quickly, but even if you don’t often get near the final storm circles you can greatly improve the number of opponents you outlast by sticking to the edges of the active play area and hiding out of sight. Make sure you’re playing Solos, Duos, or Squads for your progress to count.

  • Search Chests at Named Locations (50)

Searching chests is essential if you want to stock up on weapons and items, so you’re probably opening plenty of them up in every match, but for them to count towards this challenge they need to be at named locations. For reference, at the time of writing the following named locations are available:

  • The Authority
  • Catty Corner
  • The Fortilla
  • Frenzy Farm
  • Holly Hedges
  • Lazy Lake
  • Misty Meadows
  • Pleasant Park
  • Retail Row
  • Rickety Rig
  • Salty Springs
  • Steamy Stacks
  • Sweaty Sands

  • Catch Fish (50)

There are various ways to catch fish in Fortnite, but the main one is to grab a fishing rod or harpoon and use it on a fishing spot – the while pulsing circles you see on the surface of water. These usually yield fish quickly, but you can pretty much cast the fishing rod into any water and you’ll get a bite before too long. Do this wherever you can, as it’ll take a while to reach 50 fish in total.

  • Survive Storm phases (50)

There’s nothing particularly special to do for this challenge, as it will just unlock over time, though of course the longer you survive in a match the more Storm phases you’ll collect on the way. Naturally, matches in Solo/Duos/Squads modes will have more Storm phases that Team Rumble or other modes, so bear that in mind if you want to clear this one as quickly as possible.

  • Gain health or shields from Foraged Items

This season there are plenty of different Fortnite Foraged Items (opens in new tab) to choose from, with new additions including cabbages and corn to go with the existing apples and coconuts. Our separate guide details many of their locations, and remember that you may need to damage yourself to reduce your health so you can then consume items to build it back up again – the Fortnite Orchard (opens in new tab) is particularly useful for this due to its abundance of apples and cabbages.
