20 Upcoming Trailers Were Most Excited About

With so many incredible films due in cinemas over the next couple of years, we’re going to have our eyes peeled as always for any nugget of information – some casting news, a synopsis, a couple of pictures, a poster… even a logo.

And yet nothing quite gives us a true glimpse of all the fun and thrills like that very first trailer. So, with that in mind, here are 20 trailers that we currently look for every day and then throw a loud, crying tantrum when we can’t find them

Bond 24

Why We’re Excited: The James Bond franchise is one of the longest in cinema history, but also one of the most hit-and-miss overall. And yet last instalment Skyfall managed to exceed expectations, providing explosive action and a surprising amount of game-changing plot. Now, with director Sam Mendes and writer John logan in charge of the follow-up, we can’t wait to see what’s next in store for Daniel Craig’s Bond prequel/redux.

What We’re Hoping To See: A glimpse at a major action set piece followed by 007 making some quintessentially British remark. Also a look at our new despicable Bond villain, whoever will play him.

Avatar 2

Why We’re Excited: All Smurf and Fern Gully comparisons aside, Avatar ’s box office success speaks for itself, with James Cameron’s space spectacular becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, not to mention ushering in an entire 3D craze that has shown no sign of slowing down. And, for the sequel, Cameron promises to explore the oceanic side of Pandora, which is sure to result in more mind-blowing visuals.

What We’re Hoping To See: More exceptional CGI work and a hint at plot that delves deeper into the mythology established in the first film.

Finding Dory

Why We’re Excited: Pixar have rarely – if ever – taken a step wrong when it comes to their celebrated brand of wonderful animation, but to see some of its earlier successes finally get a second outing is especially exciting. And, after Monsters University waved away any concerns about Pixar succumbing to unoriginal sequelitis, we can now just look forward to revisiting its magnificent marine life and the gloriously dotty Dory.

What We’re Hoping To See: A welcome return for some familiar faces, such as Crush, Gill, the seagulls and even a more grown-up Nemo, but – more importantly – an indication that this will be a significantly different set-up from the first film.

Warcraft

Why We’re Excited: We’d be pumped for any film based on the Warcraft series of games, but one headed up by Duncan Jones? Frankly we can’t wait to see what the Moon and Source Code director can do with a mega-scale fantasy epic on a big budget.

What We’re Hoping To See: Just a first look at the visuals is top of our priority list. We mean, it would be good to get a sense of what kind of plot is in store for such an otherwise free-roaming RPG, but we’d be lying if said that we weren’t most excited about seeing our first orc.

The Terminator: Genesis

Why We’re Excited: After the franchise went down with a couple of lacklustre instalments, this revived and rebooted rise of the machines could finally make The Terminator a horrifying foe once again.

What We’re Hoping To See: We’d be interested to see Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney take on the iconic Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese roles, and we’d also like to see some terrifying killer cyborg action again. Mostly though, we want some indication of how aging star Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to fit into this prequel.

Tomorrowland

Why We’re Excited: To be honest, plot details have been kept well under wraps, with only a vague synopsis about a jaded genius and bright young spark embarking on a mission to Tomorrowland supplied. But it has Brad Bird at the helm and Damon Lindelof on writing duty, so we have our squee button on stand-by.

What We’re Hoping To See: George Clooney maybe the big name draw here, but we’re most excited about seeing Hugh Laurie play villain David Nix and can only hope that he will bring a House-like snark to the role.

Fantastic Four

Why We’re Excited: It might seem too soon to reboot The Fantastic Four , but the last film versions are far too comical to do the beloved characters justice. Now with a well-established comic-book formula, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, the Human Torch and the Thing can finally get the cinematic outing they deserve. Plus we can’t wait to see what Chronicle director Josh Trank can do with a real budget.

What We’re Hoping To See: A more credible take on the characters in a film that is more grounded in reality than the previous films. Plus, we need to see how the Thing looks – a rubber suit or CGI, good or bad, can make or break the film.

Jurassic World

Why We’re Excited: The original Jurassic Park brought realistic and terrifying dinosaurs to life and it’s about time we saw their return. Plus, it’s about time we saw how John Hammond’s vision for a dino theme park has expanded…

What We’re Hoping To See: What else? Massive, deadly dinosaurs, of course. And Chris Pratt undercutting a tense moment with some choice comic timing would be most welcome too.

Crimson Peak

Why We’re Excited: Three words: Guillermo del Toro. The Mexican director is making a return to horror with this new film. Details may be scarce, but it involves a crumbling mansion in the 19th century and Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam. And that’s good enough for us.

What We’re Hoping To See: With a spooky horror film trailers, less really is more so we don’t want to see any specifics, whether they’re monsters or ghosts. Just some nice visuals a creepy atmosphere and the promise of an enticing plot will suit us just fine.

The Adventures Of Tintin 2

Why We’re Excited: The Adventures of Tintin was a classic escapade filled with tons of fast-paced fun and frolics we want more.

What We’re Hoping To See: More non-stop globe-trotting excitement and perhaps even something to set it apart from the first film, telling us that this is Peter Jackson’s take on the character rather than Steven Spielberg’s.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Why We’re Excited: An update of one of the greatest dystopian revenge thrillers starring one of cinema’s premier hardmen and featuring a whole host of vehicular lunacy. We’re sold.

What We’re Hoping To See: Some stony-faced menacing from Tom Hardy and lots of road warrior depravity, please!

Assassin’s Creed

Why We’re Excited: Of all the popular video games in recent years, this is easily one of the most cinematic, with a superb fantasy set-up that marries mystic mythology with kick-ass action.

What We’re Hoping To See: Star Michael Fassbender in plenty of ice-cool fight scenes, both in 16th century settings as he accesses past memories, and in the modern day.

Inside Out

Why We’re Excited: Pixar are pushing new narrative boundaries with this original film that will take place inside a young girl’s mind as her emotions – Anger, Disgust, Fear, Sadness and Joy – try to work together to help the girl deal with moving to a new city.

What We’re Hoping To See: Any sense of how this abstract story will work visually. We know Pixar will pull it off, we just want to see… how.

Mission: Impossible 5

Why We’re Excited: The Mission: Impossible franchise gets reinvented with each new film and each new director, with Brad Bird’s last instalment being perhaps the best of the bunch. This time we have Christopher McQuarrie taking the reins and he has proven form in the Tom Cruise action hero stakes with Jack Reacher .

What We’re Hoping To See: Part of great success of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was down to the film’s superb set-pieces so we’d like to see more of the same. Whether it’s Cruise jumping out of a plane without a parachute or surfing on top of a car, we want to see some more death-defying stunts.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Why We’re Excited: Those lean, green pizza-eating machines are coming back in a film that will hopefully dispel the clunky rubber suits of the 90s film series and inject some CGI awesomeness to proceedings. And with Michael Bay in charge, you guarantee that there’ll be plenty of mayhem and destruction along the way.

What We’re Hoping To See: A look at the high-kicking mutants in action, all brandishing their individual weapons, as well as a glimpse at giant rat Splinter and baddie Shredder. Also ending the trailer with Michelangelo saying “Cowabunga” wouldn’t go amiss.

Ant-Man

Why We’re Excited: A new Marvel movie? A new Edgar Wright movie? A new Paul Rudd movie? Any one of these things alone would be enough to make us giddy with anticipation but the prospect of all three together is tantamount to mind-exploding euphoria. Frankly, this can’t fail to be utterly brilliant.

What We’re Hoping To See: A new side to Marvel, with more emphasis on comedy and stylish visuals than, for example, epic space battles. Plus we cannot wait to see Rudd in full-on superhero mode.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Why We’re Excited: Guy Ritchie takes on 60s-style superspies with charm and action in equal measure? That’ll do it for us, although the pairing of Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer as the TV show’s classic heroes Napoloen Solo and Illya Kuryakin makes the whole project extra special.

What We’re Hoping To See: Lots of tongue-in-cheek sparring, classic fisticuffs and a super 60s aesthetic.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Why We’re Excited: It’s not only the sequel to the ultimate genre-defining superhero team-up movie, but also the culmination of the latest phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Plus, with Joss Whedon back behind the wheel and not burdened with having to tell an Avengers origin story this time round, who knows what new fun and adventures he has in store for us.

What We’re Hoping To See: More of the same, please. Big set-pieces, fun character moments, and lots of shots of our A-list heroes working together. Not to mention a glimpse of our new characters Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and the Vision, as well as the Spader-voiced baddie Ultron. Hopefully being belittled by the snarky Stark.

Man of Steel 2: Batman vs Superman

Why We’re Excited: After Christopher Nolan retired his Dark Knight, we’ve been champing at the bit to see the caped crusader in action again, in whatever form that may take, and facing off against the Man of Steel at the same time is just dream fodder for any comic-book fan. Not to mention that any number of other Justice League cameos are in the offing too.

What We’re Hoping To See: Having already seen Henry Cavill’s Supes, this trailer will all be about getting our first sight of Ben Affleck’s Batman. We want to see him in action, the Batsuit, the Batmobile, the Batcave – all things ‘Bat’, basically. And a look at Gal Gadot’s long-awaited Wonder Woman would be much appreciated too, thank you.

Star Wars Episode VII

Why We’re Excited: Are you kidding? The biggest film franchise in history returns for a sequel that no one anticipated, revisiting a galaxy far, far away to pick up the adventures of some of the most popular movie characters ever created.

What We’re Hoping To See: Where do we start? The Millennium Falcon, lightsabers, R2-D2, C-3P0, Chewbacca, the Force, an older Luke, Leia and Han and – dare we say it – a Sith presence… all set to a brand new John Williams score. That’s not too much to ask is it?
